Do I need medical insurance with AccessMD?
Yes. The AccessMD program, which provides you with enhanced access to your physician, is not insurance and does not cover or provide any health care services, including tests, hospital stays, prescriptions or office visits. As such it is strongly recommended that you carry health insurance and consult with your insurance provider as to the best plan to fit your needs.

I am in a managed care plan (HMO or PPO). Can I still join?
     Yes, as long as the physician that you choose accepts your managed care plan. You may verify that the doctor you choose accepts your insurance by calling your doctor's office, visiting the physician’s profile on this web site, calling AccessMD or calling your doctor’s office.

I have Medicare. Can I still join?
     Yes, as long as the physician that you choose accepts Medicare and most physicians participating in AccessMD do. To verify that the physician that you have chosen accepts Medicare, visit the physician’s profile on this web site, call AccessMD or call your doctor’s office.

Do I still have to pay the fee if I am on Medicare?
     Yes. Your program fee covers enhanced access to your physician, which is not covered by Medicare. For more information about Medicare rules, including which services are covered, call 1-800-633-4227 or visit www.medicare.gov.

Do I need a Medicare supplemental policies?
     Whether you choose to carry a supplemental policy is strictly up to you. Many patients find supplemental health policies a valuable addition to their Medicare coverage because it allows their physician to order additional or uncovered tests, upgrade hospital services or prescribe different medicines. You should consult with your insurance provider about the policies available to determine if such a plan is right for you.

Can I join AccessMD anytime?
     Yes, as long as the physician that you choose is accepting new AccessMD clients. To verify that your doctor is among those still accepting patients, please visit the physician’s profile on this web site, call AccessMD or call your physician’s office.

May I also enroll my spouse or one or more of my children?
     Any or all members of a family may join AccessMD and depending on the doctors that you choose, you may qualify for special discounted pricing for spousal and children’s fees. The first adult member of a family to join is considered the primary client and is charged at the primary rate. The spouse may join at a discounted spousal rate, regardless if the physician he or she chooses is the same as their spouse’s. For a child to qualify for the discounted children’s rate, one parent must also be enrolled as a primary client and the child must select the same doctor as the parent. Some AccessMD physicians do not accept patients younger than 16. Suppose members of our family select different doctors?
     Among spouses, there is no impact. Each spouse is free to select his or her own doctor and qualify for the primary and spousal fees. To qualify for the special discounted children’s rate, the child must choose the same family practitioner or other physician that his or her parent chooses. If the child is enrolled with a physician other than that of a parent, the child is subject to the spousal rate.

Suppose I only want to enroll my child?
     You may enroll a child as the only member of a family. He or she would be considered a primary client and would be subject to the primary client AccessMD fee.

What if my doctor is not participating in AccessMD?
     You may want to mention AccessMD to your physician and encourage them to evaluate whether AccessMD is right for them and their practice. There is a special page on our web site for interested physicians to inquire and provide AccessMD with preliminary screening information.

Is the annual fee tax deductible?
     We encourage you to consult with your tax advisor and/or employer about the tax treatment of AccessMD fees.

Will I receive a discount if I don’t visit my doctor?
     No. The AccessMD program fee is designed to ensure enhanced access to your physician, regardless of whether you choose to visit your physician during the year. Many AccessMD clients view payment of the program fee as an investment in their health and the peace of mind. We encourage you to see your doctor on a regular basis, with a focus on preventative care and wellness.

If I am currently ill or become ill and require extensive medical services, will my fee increase?
     Absolutely not. Many AccessMD clients consider the peace of mind that comes from knowing this among the biggest benefits of the program.

How are prescriptions affected by AccessMD?
     The AccessMD fee does not cover the cost of prescription drugs.

If I need to be admitted to a hospital, where will I go?
     Each of the participating AccessMD physicians is affiliated with multiple hospitals providing exceptional care. To learn with which hospitals your physician has privileges, visit the physician’s profile on this web site or call AccessMD or the physician’s office.

How does membership in AccessMD affect relationships with specialists that I see?
     You are encouraged to continue to see any physicians that provide your care or with whom you have a relationship. AccessMD covers access provided by your primary physician only. While participating physicians make every attempt to expedite referrals to specialists, neither the physician or AccessMD can make representations regarding the access to physicians outside of the program.
