Periodontics is the branch of dentistry specializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal diseases are infections of the structures around the teeth. Often referred to as gingivitis, this is the earliest stage of periodontal disease. In more severe forms of the disease, all of the tissues are involved.
